Gmail is Google's answer to free web based email and chat rolled into one very well put together package. The service offers a whopping 2.7 (and counting) gigabytes of storage. Like the Google search engine, their free email service layout is clean and fast. Although it is ad supported, all ads are in text format so you don't loose a lot of work space fighting bloated banner and/or popup ads. Gmail offers an impressive list of features including an unheard of 9 month inactive period, full folder support, an archive feature where you can store an almost unlimited amount of received mail, intuitive filters for your friends list and to deter spam, easy to use compose and send, a message search tool, keyboard shortcuts and much more. The only drawbacks here are having to be invited to open an account and Gmail's lack of support for IMAP access and inline images. Past experience has shown Google's willingness to address user concerns and requests for additional options, so we anticipate the above drawbacks to be resolved with-in time. Bottom line - If you can get an invitation to open a free Gmail account, snap it up fast! Gmail is so cool and loaded with exclusive features, it may be the only email system you'll ever need. |
